Chances are the Table is a centerpiece in your home and the hub of activity for those who live in it…and it probably sees a lot more than just breakfast, lunch and dinner.
So, yes, this is a food blog – partly. I am a bit of a foodie and love experimenting in the kitchen and sharing the results with family and friends…especially with a great glass of wine. You can expect tried and true family favorites, great food for crowds of friends, and also experiments with no guarantees whatsoever. I rarely follow a recipe to the letter and my husband often complains that I don’t make the exact same things (i.e. his favorites) often enough…a culinary ADD of sorts. But, I’m working on it.
In addition to being a wife and mother, I am also a marriage and family therapist. From this perspective, the Table takes on a very different kind of significance. You might be surprised when I post the statistics about the drastic effects regular family meals can have on kids’ grades, suicide risk and teen pregnancy…which is scary considering that the family meal time is nearing extinction. So, I’m not just passionate about good food and wine – I’m also striving to create the kind of Table in my own home where family and friends alike feel welcomed and honored. The kind of place my kids will remember fondly, not just for the food, but also the fun and the lessons. The kind of place where friends can sit, eat and discover a compassionate ear.
I expect it will take some work. I hope you’ll join me while I try to figure it all out.
